:: Synopsis
Falkarth is one of the major continents of my dungeon and dragons homebrew world. This piece was originally created as a map of the region but then expanded upon to become a postcard. An homage to the older style cards of the mid 20th century. The map was designed to be an "in-world" artist's rendering of the region. I wanted to create a more thematic depiction of the continent rather than a more traditional topographical map.
The map was drawn in photoshop and the text was designed in illustrator. The final printing and aging effects we added in photoshop as well. This consisted of various paper textures and destressing brushes, I also added halftoning to the letters and simulated ink bleeding.
All the artwork featured within the letters are stills from various Studio Ghibli films. These films were a large part of my childhood as well as inspired many of the themes and tones present within my D&D campaigns.
Worldbuilding is an ongoing process and I hope to create more "ephemeral" works from Falkarth as well as the other continents.
